More about me:
Belgian citizen born in 1978 I spent a third of my life abroad.
I am the second child of a family of 3. I have an older sister Anne-Catherine and a younger brother Damien.
My first memories go back to Norway where I grew up between my 3 and my 7 years old.
Back in Belgium for a long period I graduated in 2001 at Solvay Business School – Université Libre de Bruxelles. During my Master of Science in Management I had the opportunity to take part to an Erasmus exchange program in Madrid.
After University I wanted to work in a foreign country. This new challenge was not to far away from home and took place… in Geneva. I worked 1 year for TXU Europe Energy Trading and then 4 years for Riverlake Shipping a freight trader.
I am a subscriber to the monthly GEO magazine since almost twenty years. I think this had an influence on my desire to travel around the world for a long period. I am crazy about backpacking. It gives you the possibility to wander around without constraints. In fact my travel philosophy is limited planning, no fear, check the unknown, take your time to understand the world, never stop asking questions, talk to people. You can learn from anything anywhere!
Sports: I love skiing. The 5 years I spent in Geneva were a dream for that. All these nice resorts so close to your place! I must say that the last slope we did back in March was high on emotion. It is difficult to leave such a nice place.
I am an Advanced PADI scuba diver. I learnt diving in Gozo, Malta. Since then I never stopped exploring the beauties of the silent world: Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Cuba and Vietnam. During this tour we are planning to dive in Croatia, Malaysia (Sipadan), Australia (Great Reef) and Honduras (Roatan).
Art and culture: I like to wonder around in museums. My preference goes to Asian art, modern art, design (especially chairs!), architecture and photography.
Books: In general I like the books Maïté dislikes
. I am fond of Amélie Nothomb, Milan Kundera, Luis Sepulveda and Francisco Coloane. I also like books about French politics and finance, Belgian comics from Jean Van Hamme. You will find some of our readings on the Book section of this website.
Music: We are quite eclectic in our music tastes. We have about 2’000 songs on our MP3 player including our favorites from: Bjork, Beck, Deus, Fugees, Moby, Morcheeba, Pink Floyd, Placebo, Portishead, Radiohead, Benabar, Emilie Simon, Raphaël, Tarmac, Louise Attaque, Compay Segundo and Manu Chao.
Food: Maïté and myself share the same passion for food and restaurants. I could kill for Belgian specialities (frites, carbonades flamandes, lapin à la gueuze, …) but I also love the Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian food.
